This, of course, is always one of the first questions we get asked by a person shopping for a garage door here at Glideaway Doors. We would receive this question hundreds of times per year, likely within the first few minutes of a phone call enquiry.

But we get it – price, along with many other factors, matters, and this can dictate what door and what options you are able to achieve in the long run.

As you can imagine though, the problem with answering the question is the fact that a garage door has so many options it can be tough for one to truly know what the price to have a fully installed garage door will be. Notwithstanding, we will do our best to give you some realistic price ranges as to what most people will spend. Remember – these prices are an average and can vary drastically depending on the product, the size, and the region.

Occasionally we will have a customer that just wants to buy the garage door kit. Although there are other costs involved with a garage door, there are people who like to buy and install the garage door themselves. Therefore, the expected price range is as follows, keeping in mind these price ranges do not include shipping and GST.

There are 2 main questions we like to ask to better understand your ideal garage door…

What type of garage door are you after?  AND…  What size garage door do you need?

What garage door types are available?

The main types of residential application garage doors are ROLLER DOORS, SECTIONAL DOORS and TILT DOORS

I don’t know how big my door is! What are the common sizes?

Sectional doors are a cost-effective garage door and are available in many finishes and styles, meaning the sectional door is one of the most customisable garage door options available. The sectional door can fit better with restricted requirements, such as headroom, side room, and wind loads. A sectional door generally consists of a number of horizontal formed metal panels which roll on tracking up in the headspace of your garage.

Keep in mind the prices below do not include auto openers, installation, low headroom kits etc.

Roller doors are the most cost effective garage door but are very limiting due to the space requirements and maximum sizes. Maximum width for a roller door is 5.1 meters, but these widths are not recommended for medium to high wind zone areas. Roller doors consist of a metal curtain that rolls up onto a drum, taking up very little room near the ceiling in the headspace of your garage.

Single Domestic Roller Door (up to 3.0 meters wide)  – Supplied only        $600 – $950

Optional Extras for Roller Doors
  • An automatic opener with remotes           $600 – $750
  • Installation by approved installers            $350 – $500

The roller doors are one of the most common garage door systems available, but please keep in mind that the roller door will not fit into, or suit every garage.

Tilt garage doors are on a par with a sectional garage door cost-wise and are available in a standard steel range or can be custom clad to meet each individual site. However, the tilt door has some restrictions which make it a less practical door. This includes the swing out when the door is opening and closing which means you can’t park a vehicle as close to the garage door; and the door panel hanging in the door opening, making the clear opening height restricted.

The ‘Traditional’ tilt door, a simple sheet steel panel, is the most common tilt door available.

Single tilt door, Coloursteel finish – Supply only                 $900 – 1300
Double tilt door, Coloursteel finish – Supply only               $1300 – 1900

Optional Extras for Tilt Garage Doors
  • Automatic door opener with remotes – Supplied only          $400 – 800
  • Installation by approved installers – region dependent     $600 – 900
